There wasn’t much happiness in the Budget for us, but here’s some interesting statistics:
Interesting stuff…bet you didn’t read that in the Budget, but it was there. Here’s some other interesting stuff that was not in the Budget, but is apparently true for Hawke’s Bay.

The Main Report in its weekly addition for the week beginning 8 June 2009, reported:
“It’s our job to be fair”
Does that slogan have a familiar ring to it? Maybe it should be reclassified to read “It’s our job to be unfair”. Word from sources deep within the Department has it that the IRD is currently undertaking reviews of minors (people aged 16 years and under), where there is a suspicion that the minors income has come from a source with a higher tax rate. Moral of the story….Nothing is safe from the IRD
Don’t quote us but perhaps with falling tax takes, depreciation is being read as desperation. The IRD recently issued an adjudication on the acquisition of land. It said in brief “…land acquisition is when settlement occurs…” Common Law (which we all followed including the IRD up until now) says “…land acquisition is when a contract goes unconditional…” imagine the fun that would cause with GST. This is not the law and is merely an adjudication, so beware that any answer you seek from the IRD may fly in the face of Common Law.
